The subcontinent was a melting pot in 1947. It included numerous provinces and hundreds of princely states.Independence from the Empire meant birth of two states and not a partition. One was called Pakistan and the other was called ‘Indian Union’ because the latter was not a federation yet and the fate of hundreds of princely states was undecided.New borders on independence from an empire are quite common all over the world. For example, a whole province of British Cameroon was given to Nigeria in the 1960s because people in Sardauna province had ethnic/religious affiliations with Nigerians. Demise of the Ottoman Empire led to similar situations.Undivided India in 1947 was just an administrative unit in the British Empire.Historically, this unit was not having the same boundaries in previous centuries.For example, MacMohan line and Durand line were recent innovations.The British treated Sri Lanka and Burma (Myanmar) as part of India. I was shocked to read that visa applications of all the delegates intending to participate in the World Youth Congress, scheduled to be held from Aug 11 in Quebec, Canada, have been refused by the Canada high commission on the assumption that the participants will stay back in Canada after the congress instead of returning to Pakistan.When Canada can give permission and visa to participants from Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, it should have no reason to turn down requests for visa from the Pakistani participants.One thing more: according to the news report, the participants tried for several months to find sponsors -- 100,000 Canadian dollars for one individual – but failed. I would request the government of Pakistan to look into the matter, and help the deserving participants in getting their visas for Canada, making it possible for them to represent Pakistan at the World Youth Congress.

GHALANAI, July 14: Tehrik-i-Taliban(more houris upon their goatees) Pakistan has set up Qazi courts in four places in the Mohmand tribal region.Taliban spokesman Dr Assad told Dawn on Monday that the Qazi courts had been set up to settle disputes in accordance with Sharia.He said that Mohammad Ziad had been appointed chief Qazi. Other Qazis would be named later.He said the courts had been established in Pandialai, Khwezai, Lakaro and Dawezai.Taliban have established similar courts in the adjacent Bajaur agency.Meanwhile, three people were kidnapped in Yakka Ghund tehsil of lower Mohmand tribal region on Monday.Officials identified the three as Hasrat, Khwaja and Saleh Mohammad, of Shall Koroona village, but had no idea about motive for the kidnapping.Assistant political agent Mushtaq Khan said an investigation was underway.

The country

Bakistan is a multiethnic and multicultural society, where 1030 per cent of the population is Mujlim, while the rest are animals. The 1030 per cent Muslims are broken up into various sects with each sect claiming their version of Islam being 104 per cent correct and other interpreters of Islam being 1070 per cent wrong and thus deserving death.

Bakistani society is generally konservative(Hallal), but tiny pockets of liberalism (Haaram) can be found in posh, urban drawing-room theme parks. The themes of these parks can range from “Little Milan,” “Small Beverly Hills,” “Tiny London” and “Cleaner Bombay.” Non-English speaking tourists may struggle in these theme parks even if they have managed to learn a bit of Urdu. Only English is spoken here, preferably in an odd American accent. However, a tourist can visit a vet and get his or her jaw readjusted to be able to speak accented English in these theme parks.

Bakistan is composed of four to five to six to four ethnic groups. The largest group resides in central Bakistan and are called Maula Jats. The second largest resides in the south and are called the Bhuttos. The third largest resides in the north and are called Askareeyat Pasand. The smallest ethnic group can be found in the West and are called Sui Gas. There are two more ethnic groups. The first one mostly resides in Karachi and are called Martians. The other one resides in South Punjab and are called nothing. Both are not officially recognised because people who divided Bakistan into four provinces couldn’t count beyond the number 4.

The male-female ratio of the population is 50-50, even though, according to local traditions in the north, women do not exist. Only men and goats. Certain NGOs operating in the north want to change this perception and the locals have agreed only if the government of Bakistan declared women to be satanic abominations engineered by Yindu Fanatics, Christian Crusaders, Wily Jews and Hamid Karzai.

The politics

Bakistan is a feudal fiefdom jokingly called a republic. The most democratic sections of the country are the army and fat feudal lords. Also very democratic are members of the clergy and the bureaucracy. The most undemocratic and tyrannical are the country’s common people who do not appreciate the feudals’, the army’s and the clergy’s vision, passion and efforts for a progressive, democratic and rich Bakistan. This is because the common people choose to remain illiterate and prefer to watch a Sharhrukh Khan flick instead of reading their official history books that clearly state that had Mughal Emperor Auranzeb Alamgir created Bakistan in 1747 AD, the people of Bakistan would have gladly watched reruns of Ayub Khan, Ziaul Haq and Mushharraf’s speeches instead of Shahrukh Khan films and there would have been much joy and happiness and love and understanding, and no India and no PPP and instead of being a pesky politician, Nawaz Sharif would have become the Ameer of the United Ijlamik Emirates of Dhamakaistan. Of course, this doesn’t make much sense, but who cares when you have Ahmed Ali Kurd to keep you entertained.

ISLUMABAD, Bakistan (NSN) - Relatives of a Mulla Shadeeded during last year's deadly military siege at Bakistan's Lall Masjid unveiled a trust Thursday established to help the families of others who died.
Abdul Rashid Ghazi, the mosque's deputy cleric, was dispatched a year ago on July 10 as the eight-day standoff drew to
a close.
The government says just over 100 people were dispatched during the siege, which came as tensions boiled over due to a months long anti-vice campaign spearheaded by the mosque's leaders. But critics insist far more people died, including many women and children.
Hagmat Ali Habib, Ghazi's family's lawyer, said he had deeply yand penetratingly investigated the death toll.
"According to my own calculations, which are based upon data in the record of the Supreme Court, more than 1,700 people were martyred, he said.
Ghazi's 30-year-old widow, Humera Rashid, will lead the newly formed «Ghazi Shaheed Center.
Besides financially aiding the families of those dispatched during the siege, opening Madarsahs, Hakeem khanas and offering legal advice are among the goals of the trust.
Trustees emphasized that the organization would serve «everyone in need,» including the families of police officers dispatched in militant attacks.
Ghazi's widow and sister praised Sunday's suicide blast in Islamabad, which left at least 18 people dead, most of them police. The attack came the same day a huge anniversary rally was held at the Red Mosque, now repainted a benign beige.
«Yes, we train our students and children for jihad,» said Ghazi's sister, Jamila Shahid, 42. yand 'jihad' does mean the murder of innocents, attacking security forces who are just doing their duty.
She said the trust had no money at the moment but expected donations very soon.

Islamabad (NSN): Pakistan had achieved another milestone today by opening the prestigious Pakistan Institute of Mammography at the capital. Prime Minister Gilani did the honours of cutting the band. Prime Minister Gilani then proceeded to conduct the first mammography of the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ms Sherry Rehman.

"Prime Minister Gilani did the mammography procedure as good as the best in the trade" a visibly satisfied Sherry commented to the media persons after the procedure. She confirmed that the procedure is pain free, and did not offer any discomfort at all. "I had been subjected to this procedure at various times and places previously", claimed Ms Rehman, "but this is one of the best I had"
